Friendships

Friendships are a weird thing. Maybe because I missed out on the social interactions and drama of junior and senior high school. Maybe it's just me.

You can know people for years... have a variety of shared experiences and bonding moments. You personally may even consider such a person like this to be in your inner most circle of friends. However, take some life altering event such as a big break up with a long-time significant other, moving to another city or state, an engagement, etc. and true friendship colors will show.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing of course. Just part of life and the natural progression of relationships. Big life events change the dynamics between you and those around you. Priorities shift.

Sometimes you just drift apart quietly yet still having a special place in your heart for the friend. Could be from one friend moving away making it hard to get together for that regular coffee chat. Maybe priorities shift making late night bar nights a rarity which can drift apart strict drinking buddy level friends.

Other times friends will outright and directly chose to go their separate ways. Perhaps in choosing one friend or another in a break up. Or from opposing an engagement for any variety of reasons.

Whatever it may be. It is always sad to lose someone you cared about and called "friend". Yet at the same time it really makes you appreciate the friends who stick by you, support you, ask how your day is, share their lives and stories with you and are equally happy to have you in their life as you are with them in yours.
